The segment of Washington Street between Chestnut Street and Church Street in Newton was selected for the federal fiscal year 2014 Boston Region MPO study “Addressing Safety, Mobility, and Access on Subregional Priority Roadways.” The study identified and analyzed a number of safety, mobility, and access problems of various transportation modes, including walking and bicycling, and proposed short- and long term improvements for the entire corridor and for specific locations. Together, the proposed improvements provide a vision of the corridor operating safely and efficiently for users of all transportation modes.
