Dear Chairman Mohler and Members of the Boston MPO,

On behalf of the Town of Swampscott, I am writing to express our strong support for keeping the Swampscott Rail Trail project on the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). This project is a vital community initiative that promotes safe, sustainable transportation options, encourages active recreation, and enhances regional connectivity.

The Rail Trail will provide a multi-use path for pedestrians and cyclists, linking residential neighborhoods, local businesses, and public spaces. It aligns with the region's goals of improving non-motorized transportation infrastructure, increasing mobility options, and supporting public health and environmental sustainability.

The Town has made significant progress on project planning and design and remains committed to collaborating with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the Boston MPO, and other partners
to ensure successful implementation. Removing the project from the TIP at this stage would jeopardize these efforts and delay the tangible benefits the trail will bring to the community.

We respectfully request that the Boston MPO maintain the Swampscott Rail Trail project on the TIP so that it can continue moving forward without disruption. Thank you for your consideration and continued support of transportation projects that enhance the quality of life for our residents.

Sincerely,

Nick Connors, Town Administrator
